The Keto-Beginning
In the simplest description this is a diet of low carbs, moderate proteins, and higher fat intake (more fat than you would expect). This causes the body to go into ketosis, a state which produces ketones through the break down of fatty acids, to be used as fuel for the body. And this can cause weight loss in the body. Ketones are an acceptable energy source, and an alternative to glycogen (stored carbohydrates), which affects blood sugar. My problem is that my blood sugar is usually too high.
I have been reading as much as I can about the subject because doing something without knowledge can be dangerous. One author that I have found who explains this way of eating in a way you can understand is Leanne Vogel. She is the author of The Keto Beginning, a great book that explains the process and how to get started safely. There is a link (banner) to the book at the top of this page. You can also check her out on YouTube, and get a good sense of why she lives this way.
The diet is of great benefit to female health as well as males (me). If you are having issues with hormonal imbalances or other issues such as insulin resistance, or just interested in weight loss, this diet might be helpful to you. Leanne is very knowledgable of this subject, and a certified holistic nutritionist.
This is by far the easiest diet I have ever followed. Once you get your macros percentages right everything works great.
I am losing weight while getting plenty to eat. And plenty to eat means nothing if you’re not eating stuff you actually like. I occasionally post pictures of some of the meals I have eaten. You can scroll through the blog and see some of those. There will be more.
I hope you will check this out if you are interested in improving your overall health. As is smart, check with your doctor before starting any sort of dietary or weight loss program.
