Continually toward Health

So, my A1C increased slightly, and I still don’t require any medication. My cholesterol is normal, and my blood pressure is superb. I believe I’m close to getting myself under control. I have even improved my diet somewhat.

Yesterday, I started physical therapy. I have been having pain in my hips. It turns out it isn’t my hips at all. As I understand it, because I have a lower lumbar fusion, the stress of that part of my spine not moving causes stress in other areas, tendons, smaller muscles, etc. My hip pain wasn’t hip pain at all. Where the pain is, however, is so close that I mistook it for hip pain.

So, I have fifteen sessions of therapy left, and they gave me at home exercises. After yesterday’s appointment, I went for a walk on the treadmill at the gym. Today, the area of pain is somewhat irritated after doing the exercises this morning. I really hope it improves because it is not pleasant.

My chest and triceps are a little sore, but that is because did a few sets of chest presses on one of the machines. I also did a few sets of seated lateral rows. There was no pressure on the lower back. The exercise machine has a padded stop where you lean forward and make contact with the chest. So the lower back is not involved when you pull with your arms.

I guess I’m trying to say I am sore. I hope to continue going to the gym. It is weird not being able to use more weight to work out. I guess I need to face that I really am old. It doesn’t feel that way on the inside, but my body is a constant reminder.

Anyway, it seems I am still moving towards better health. I guess it matters to keep trying.

  1. Health is the most important thing we have. You seem to make good progress chosing for your health, Tony. Healing / Recovering is usually a longer process, but it’s worth its time.
