30 Days of Discipline: My Journey with Diet, Fasting, and Fitness

I’ve been consistent with my diet, fasting, going to the gym, and cardio (walking/running) for about 30 days. As usual, my weight is fluctuating up and down. My brain is trying to attribute that to my working out and gaining muscle.

My pants and shirts are fitting a little more loosely. I guess I should be glad about that. I should probably be taking some photos.

I have been spending weeks in ketosis. I bought a ketone monitor a few months ago. So now I can be sure I am in ketosis and burning fat for fuel. I work out in a fasted state, and I have plenty of strength and energy. Things seem to be going well.

I have had to fight multiple battles, minute to minute, day to day. I am having to make conscious decisions about food, about when to eat, and about what to eat. Then I have to fight my urge to go on a sugar binge. Some days are very difficult. The other day, I ate a little too much cheese (cheese is allowed), and now my neck has broken out with a light rash. What you consume makes a difference.

As I said, it has been around 30 days, and not all of them have been easy. When I have these urges to go off diet, my mind is trying to justify the desire to have something sweet as a reward for being good for several days or a month or whatever. But behind that thought, I can also see myself getting out of control if I go off diet. It happens every time. Then I have to reset and start again.

I want to make permanent changes in what I eat. If it won’t benefit my health, I don’t want to eat it. It’s that simple. I want to change my body, permanently, for the better.

I have been making good progress for the last 30 days. And as recently as yesterday and this morning, I’ve had to make a conscious decision to stay on track. I will keep going. I’m feeling pretty damned good, and I like it.

  1. You’re doing great, Tony! 30 days is a huge milestone, I am proud of you. And if you can do this for 30 days, then 60 isn’t that hard either (that’s how my brain works 😉). You got this!
