It was Labor Day weekend! What was I thinking? 🤔 My family is one fantastic bunch of people who love to enjoy themselves, and when I am with them, I jump on the ride!
What can I say? A good time was had by all (Me!). My son, his grandmother, and I left Pensacola, FL, Friday morning. We dropped Mawmaw off in Louisiana and headed for Texas. The closer we got to our destination, the more I realized I would not stay on my diet this particular weekend. I chose not to struggle with it. So, for lunch, Gabe and I stopped at Wendy’s. I had not had a burger from Wendy’s for a year. It was so tasty! That was our only meal that day.
We arrived at my sister’s in Baytown around 7 pm. My niece, a few years older than Gabe, picked him up (he was staying with her for the weekend).
The next day, my niece and her husband had a BBQ. He smoked a brisket, which turned out very well. There were appetizers, snacks, lots of alcohol. I had a few drinks and snacks before we sat down to eat. Everything was fantastic.
Then, the next day, my sister cooked a feast. Funny, I don’t remember her being a very good cook growing up. She has certainly proven herself to be a legit grandma! You know, the kind who cooks everything you don’t need but can get at grandma’s house.
I saw most of my great-nieces and great-nephews. They seem to be a foot taller every time I see them. We all had a lot of fun. Two of my great-nieces (sisters) are in gymnastics and are progressing rapidly. I expect one or both of them to at least get a scholarship by the time they are ready for college. The oldest definitely has the Olympics on her mind. She will be 11 this year. Her little sister is also highly competitive. Neither of these girls eats a lot of sweets. They are very conscious of what they put into their bodies. The youngest eats fewer carbs than I do and loves wild game. Their little sister is 2, I believe. She keeps everyone entertained!
I have another great niece & nephew (brother and sister) who are musicians like me. She plays the tuba, and he plays the clarinet. I have not heard them play yet, but I have been told they enjoy playing music very much. Their little sister likes school and will probably choose music as well.
My older great-nieces are girl’s girls. They are in their early teens, not yet in high school. They all do well in school and make their parents and grandparents proud.
So, it was a great Labor Day weekend. I have only had a little bit of trouble getting back on track. I only gained 3 pounds over the last 2 weeks, which is better than I expected. I feel great and had a good workout at the gym this morning.
